You may be asked to state the altitude at a certain point or the difference in altitude between two points. There are clues on the map to help you:
Contour lines are brown lines on the map that join all places f equal height. Not all contour lines are labelled with a height, so you have to calculate their height by looking at the labelled contour lines or spot heights around them.
Spot heights are black numbers on the map that indicate the exact height at a certain spot.
If you are asked to work out how high you have climbed if you walk from one location to another, you need to subtract the starting point height from the finishing point height.
Remember to add the units (m) to your answer.
If you are asked to describe or compare releif in two parts of the map then you need to imagine the landscape that the contour lines are creating in 3D. Use words such as flat, undulating, hilly, mountainous, valley, plateau and ridge.
