You may be asked to draw something such as a road, path or woodland onto a cross-section. To do this you will need a piece of paper with a straight edge.
Line up the straight edge of your piece of paper along the bottom axis on the cross-section that you have been given.
Add a start mark and a finish mark on your piece of paper. Write down the grid reference for the start and finish points.
Place your piece of paper where the road, path or woodland touches the paper.
Mark on the height of the land as you move along the piece of paper.
Then position the piece of paper back onto the cross-section and mark with an arrow or a bracket the correct location of each feature. Annotate the cross-section with the names of the features.
Mark the height of the land on to the cross-section and join up the dots to show the relief of the section covered.
You may also be asked to annotate simple sketch sections.
